Base pay range : $325,000.00 / yr - $390,000.00 / yr
Additional compensation : Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), performance bonus, paid time off (50–55 days per year), traditional federal pension, federal 401(k), health insurance, malpractice coverage.
Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements and submit your application within four months of appointment. Award amount up to $200,000 and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the EDRP application. Former participants are ineligible.
Qualifications
- United States Citizenship.
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved school in the year of completion.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
- Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification. Accepted programs include ACGME‑accredited, AOA‑accredited, or other programs with U.S. practice experience evaluated by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Residency or fellowship enrollment in an ACGME / AOA accredited program qualifies for appointment as a “Physician Resident Provider” (PRP) on an intermittent or fee‑basis; PRPs are not independent practitioners and must be fully licensed physicians.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board certified or eligible in cardiovascular disease or interventional cardiology; board certified or eligible in electrophysiology (preferred).
- Physical requirements : heavy lifting ≥45 lb; straight pulling (reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands); walking (4 hrs); standing (3 hrs); kneeling; rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable to 13″–16″; far vision to 20 / 20 in one eye and 20 / 40 in the other; hearing (may use aid); mental & emotional stability.

Perform clinical duties focused on arrhythmia management, including inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular consultation services.Conduct standard diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures : temporary and permanent device implantation (pacemakers, loop recorders, AICDs, bi‑ventricular devices), direct current cardioversions, ECG interpretation, Holter and ambulatory rhythm interpretation.Serve as academic faculty for cardiovascular fellowship training program; provide medical consultative services and chart review for quality assurance and risk management.Teach and mentor Cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students; coordinate educational activities and evaluation.Perform history and physical examination, evaluate problems, and define appropriate therapeutic approaches.See outpatients in the Overton Brooks VAMC clinics; support Medical Care Cost Recovery Program objectives and collect MCCR funds.Maintain physician license and continuing education requirements; ensure compliance with VA policies.Perform other duties within scope of practice as assigned.Research experience and interest desirable.Seniority level
