GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under the general supervision of the Teacher or designated supervisor, the Paraprofessional II supports instructional staff in meeting students' academic needs and in advancing the objectives of the school by contributing to the efficient operation of the school or department by assisting in the coordination and communication with Administration, instructional and support staff, parents, and students. May serve as a substitute in the teacher's absence; prioritizes tasks and performs duties independently, with periodic supervision or review.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Since every duty associated with this position may not be described herein, employees may be required to perform duties not specifically spelled out but may be considered incidental in the performance of this job.
- Assists in the instructional process by working with students individually or in small groups, supplementing regular instruction and implementing instructor-developed lesson plans under the direct supervision of an instructional staff member.
- In the absence of the Teacher, assumes the instructional process by implementing instructor-developed lesson plans.
- Assists in the preparation, organization, and use of instructional aids, enrichment materials, and technology as directed.
- Works with the Teacher to reinforce positive student learning and behavior patterns.
- Assists students in the development of study skills necessary for learning and in the achievement of instructional objectives.
- Supports parental involvement activities.
- Demonstrates and understanding and respect of individual student's cultures, needs, abilities, and interests.
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures compliance with laws and policies concerning student information.
- Performs related clerical and recordkeeping duties as directed.
- Adheres to good safety procedures.
- Provides support in a computer laboratory, library / media center and / or other learning facilities when appropriate.
- Participates in training programs when appropriate.
- May be assigned to back-up other assistants in areas such as ESE or Clinic after appropriate training.
- Assists with school operations such as student pick-up and drop off, lunch duties, and hall monitoring when necessary.
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Alternatives to the minimum qualifications can be made by the Board as they find appropriate and acceptable.
Education :
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a related fieldor at least 60 college credits from an accredited college or universityExperience :
One (1) year of related work experience.Experience as a Teacher Assistant / Paraprofessional preferred.Licenses and Certifications :
ParaProfessional Certification.ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED : KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Bilingual skills encouraged.General knowledge of report and record keeping principles and techniques.General knowledge of business mathematics.Skilled in both written and oral communications for effective expression and clarity.Ability to utilize a variety of modern office equipment, i.e., computers, facsimile machines, and copiers.Ability to establish and maintain effective-working relationships with supervisor, support staff and other departments position interacts with.Ability to organize and review work for efficient results and accuracy.Ability to perform duties with consistent courtesy and tact in the best interest of the public.Ability to issue and follow oral and written instructions.
