Overview
Becoming familiar with the facility's administrative structure as introduced in the pre training orientation session. This role includes resident identification before administering treatments, reporting accidents and incidents, maintaining confidentiality of resident information, and following facility policies related to resident care and safety.
Responsibilities
- Identify residents using wristbands or photo cards before providing treatments, serving meals, etc., as necessary.
- Report all accidents and incidents observed during the shift as they occur.
- Use only authorized abbreviations established by the facility when recording information.
- Report changes in a residents condition to the Nurse Supervisor / Charge Nurse as soon as practical.
- Record entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., in an informative, descriptive manner.
- Agree not to disclose residents protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations to the Administrator.
- Report any known or suspected unauthorized access to the facilitys information system.
- Perform only nursing care procedures you have been trained to perform.
- Ensure the residents room is ready for reception (e.g., bed made, name tags up, admission kit available).
- Greet residents and escort them to their room; introduce residents to roommates and other residents and personnel as appropriate.
- Inventory and mark residents personal possessions; store clothing; assist with packing belongings during transfers or discharge.
- Transport residents to new rooms or to the receiving area; assist with loading / unloading residents to / from vehicles as necessary.
- Participate in and receive nursing reports as instructed.
- Follow policies concerning exposure to blood / body fluids.
- Make beds as instructed and place extra covers as requested.
- Measure and record temperatures, pulses, and respirations (TPRs); weigh and measure residents as instructed.
- Check residents who are unable to call for help and respond to calls promptly.
- Check residents routinely to ensure personal care needs are being met.
- Assist residents with identifying food arrangements; record food / fluid intake; report changes in eating habits to the Nurse Supervisor / Charge Nurse.
- Keep water pitchers clean and filled; make water accessible to residents.
- Perform after-meal care (remove trays, clean hands, face, and clothing).
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures; follow work assignments and schedules.
- Collaborate with inter-departmental and facility personnel to maintain nursing services to meet residents needs.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals per facility policies.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information; report unauthorized disclosures.
- Report all allegations of resident abuse and / or misappropriation of resident property.
- Honor residents refusal of treatment requests and report such requests to your supervisor.
Qualifications
Education and / or Experience : Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.Language Skills : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.Mathematical Skills : Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Not specified in detail here.Physical Demands : Regularly sit, stand, walk and talk; read or hear. Lift and / or move up to 25 pounds occasionally. Prolonged use of a desk top or laptop computer.
