Postdoctoral research position,modeling and investigating tropical air-sea interactions – Georgia Institute of Technology

A postdoctoral research position is available for modeling and investigating tropical air-sea interactions. The project aims to understand the oceanic and atmospheric sources of climate variability and the interaction between them. Some preliminary findings were published in J. Climate, doi : 10.1175 / JCLI-D-16-0714.1. The planned study will employ new modeling strategies to further dissect the ocean forced and atmospheric intrinsic variability with an aim to develop a process-oriented framework for understanding the coupled atmosphere-ocean system. The successful candidate is also encouraged to create and research new ideas with their advisor with a focus on tropical air-sea interaction.

The position will be based in Jie He's lab in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Georgia Institute of Technology and will become available in August, 2018. Starting date is flexible but Fall of 2018 would be ideal. This is a 2-year position, with potential for renewal depending on the performance and funding situation. Responsibilities center on research, modeling and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. PhD in atmospheric and oceanic sciences or equivalent fields is required. A working knowledge of computer programming for climate modeling is preferred.
