Job Summary :
Wildcat Oil Tools Field Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of BOPs and other pressure control equipment. This role requires working in dynamic field environments, ensuring that all equipment is fully operational and compliant with API standards and industry regulations. The Field Technician must have strong troubleshooting skills, mechanical expertise, and the ability to work under high-pressure conditions to support drilling operations safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities :
- Travel to remote locations to perform on-site inspections, maintenance, and repairs of BOPs and pressure control equipment.
- Install, commission, and function-test BOP stacks, control systems, and associated hydraulic components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in the field, minimizing downtime.
- Conduct hydrostatic pressure testing, function testing of all BOP components.
- Ensure proper documentation of field service activities, including field tickets, test results, and part replacements.
- Adhere to and enforce all Wildcat Oil Tools safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and compliance with OSHA, and API regulations
- Participate in Wildcat University training programs to enhance knowledge of safety procedures, BOP systems and pressure control equipment.
- Work closely with shop techs, managers, and engineers to coordinate maintenance and repairs.
- Assist in rigging up and rigging down BOPs and related equipment.
- Identify potential equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to prevent downtime.
- Operate field service equipment such as hydraulic pumps, torque wrenches, and pressure gauges.
- Train and mentor junior technicians on BOP maintenance and field safety procedures.
- Always Represent Wildcat Oil Tools in a proper and professional manner on and off the job.
Qualifications & Skills :
High school diploma or GED required, technical certification or vocational training in mechanics, hydraulics, or a related field preferred.Minimum 1+ years of experience in BOP maintenance, oilfield services, or pressure control equipment repair.Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance software.Experience working in extreme field conditions, including offshore and remote drilling locations.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under minimal supervision.Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact with client representatives.Valid drivers license and ability to travel frequently, sometimes on short notice.Preferred Qualifications :
API certifications related to BOP maintenance.Knowledge of API 16A standards.Knowledge of safety regulations, including H2S awareness, confined space entry, and lockout / tagout (LOTO) procedures.Forklift and overhead crane / rigging operation certification.Work Environment :
Work in remote field locations.Exposure to extreme weather conditions, high-pressure systems, and physically demanding work environments.Required to wear PPE, including fire-resistant clothing, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.Work may involve extended shifts, including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations.Frequent travel and long periods away from home may be required.
