Job description

UDOT Transportation Education Program Training Manager

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking an individual with strong analytical skills to collaborate with other members of the UDOT Employee Development team in the development and administration of learning and development programs for the Transportation Education Program. This includes the creation of instructional materials for on-the-job training for all Transportation Technicians. You will be responsible for developing and implementing consistent operating policies, procedures, and work practices for the program. You will collaborate with region training staff to ensure that all Transportation Technicians complete the required coursework, including training on equipment operation. Additionally, you will ensure all coursework, safety training, and equipment training are accessible and delivered to Transportation Technicians in partnership with region leadership and region trainers or safety managers. Performs other related duties as required.

As the Training Manager, you will manage all aspects of the Transportation Education Program, including :

  • Policy and Procedure Administration

Minimum Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must have all of the following :

  • At least five (5) years of experience in highway maintenance and / or construction
  • Certified to teach Construction Industry OSHA 10 or the ability to become certified within six (6) months of hire
  • ATSSA Certified Corporate Instructor
  • A valid class A CDL or be able to obtain one within one (1) year of hire
  • Experience in equipment operations
  • At least one (1) year of experience as a technical trainer or equipment trainer
  • Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Products
  • Preferences

    Preference may be given to those with at least one of the following :

  • A Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Management, Engineering, Learning Sciences, Technology, or a related field OR equivalent experience
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Completed TEP Program
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of vehicle / equipment maintenance and repair needs, practices, and methods.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Strong computer applications skills.
  • Strong skills using effective and practical training, media technology, and techniques.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to manage, administer, plan, and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, leadership, and the general public, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and / or other vulnerable populations.
