Job Description

The University Testing Center is inviting applications for one part-time Student Workers to assist with the administration and proctoring of academic and non-academic examinations, provide excellent customer service, and perform general office work under the supervision of the University Testing Center Manager. Availability to work between academic terms is preferred, but not required. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

Provide professional and courteous service to examinees, faculty, staff, and others who use the University Testing Center.

Complete all required trainings and / or certifications prior to proctoring test sessions.

Set up the testing room and prepare all materials prior to each testing session.

Verify the identity of all examinees and admit them in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of examinee information and exam content.

Inform examinees of the test rules, and explain the rationales behind them when necessary.

Actively monitor all examinees for the entire test session.

Respond to and report all incidents or irregularities that may occur.

Collect and store all materials at the end of each testing session.

Perform general office work (e.g., filing, copying, scanning, answering phones, etc.).

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno with cumulative GPA of at least 2.50.

Candidate must be enrolled in and started a core math sequence course at UNR.

Candidate must have effective interpersonal communications skills, strong attention to detail, and basic computer skills.

Candidate must have experience working in customer service and / or in an office environment.

Candidate is expected to actively monitor testing sessions of up to 2 hours in duration.

Candidate must have willingness to work with individuals of varying ages and from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Candidate is expected to be on time and ready to work for all scheduled shifts, and to make schedule change requests in accordance with University Testing Center policy.

Cannot have received sanctions for academic dishonesty or misconduct under the Academic Standards policy (UAM 6,502).

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate student, or undergraduate student with sophomore standing or higher.

Completed UNR’s core mathematics and writing requirements.

Previous experience working with students (e.g., tutoring, student teaching) and / or in a learning environment (e.g., library).

Schedule

Shifts are generally assigned within two-hour increments, not to exceed 20 hours per week.

Available to work part-time regularly scheduled shifts within the University Testing Center’s operating hours : Monday-Friday : 9 : 00 a.m. – 5 : 00 p.m.
