The Department of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is comprised of approximately 150 paid and more than 300 volunteer faculty members organized into 11 divisions covering major medical subspecialties. The department’s clinical mission encompasses inpatient and ambulatory care settings at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (the primary teaching hospital of the medical school) and at various hospital affiliates and ambulatory care sites throughout the region. Responsibilities

The Nocturnist will primarily manage admitted patients on the hospitalist service in close collaboration with consultants and subspecialists. The role includes partnering with emergency department physicians, observation unit physicians, and intensivists for patients requiring admission to hospitalist services across medical, surgical, and intermediate care units. Responsibilities include coordinating inpatient care, assisting with transitions of care back to ambulatory settings, and working closely with medical and surgical support staff, including advanced practice providers. The position also offers opportunities to engage in clinical and research programs, faculty development, quality improvement activities, and teaching initiatives in collaboration with Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

MD / DO or equivalent. Board eligible in Internal Medicine and / or Family Medicine.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Clinical skills appropriate for nocturnist duties in inpatient settings
• Ability to coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams
• Strong communication and teaching abilities
