Job Description : Day Habilitation Driver

Reporting Supervisor : Day Habilitation Supervisor

Position Summary : The Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of individuals to and

from the day habilitation facility, as well as to offsite activities and appointments. This includes

ensuring the comfort and safety of individuals during transit, maintaining the vehicle, and

adhering to all company policies and traffic regulations.

Duties :

  • Picks up individuals from their homes and transports them to the day habilitation facility.
  • Drops off individuals at their homes after their time at the facility has concluded.
  • Assists individuals with boarding and exiting the vehicle as needed.
  • Ensures the safety and comfort of all passengers during transit.
  • Maintains a clean and well-organized vehicle.
  • Performs daily vehicle safety checks and reports any maintenance issues.
  • Runs errands or transports individuals to offsite activities and appointments as required.
  • Maintains accurate records of trips, mileage, and any incidents.
  • Adheres to all company policies, traffic laws, and safety regulations.
  • Communicates effectively with individuals, guardians, and staff members.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances during transit.
  • Participates in required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • All other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Valid driver's license held for a minimum of 5 years is required.
  • Clean driving record with no points or violations in the last five (5) years is required.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and motor vehicle check.
  • Excellent driving skills and knowledge of local roads and traffic patterns preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and ability to work with diverse populations
  • Reliable and punctual with excellent time management skills.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Physical Demands / Working Conditions :

  • Ability to lift and assist individuals as needed (up to 50 lbs).
  • Sitting for extended periods while driving.
  • Frequent entering and exiting of the vehicle.
  • Ability to operate vehicle controls and perform visual checks.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions during transit.
  • Manage potential behavioral issues or medical emergencies while maintaining vehicle
  • safety.

  • Support and maintain all corporate policies, procedures, and quality and confidentiality
  • standards.

  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed to meet the needs of the
  • organization.

    Trainings :

    Must successfully complete all mandatory DDD trainings : Overview of

    Developmental Disabilities, Abuse and Neglect, CPR & First Aid, Agency New Hire Orientation,

    Agency's approved training on handling Life-Threatening Emergencies / Danielle 's Law, and other

    professionally based training deemed necessary by APluscare. Additional training in defensive

    driving and wheelchair securement may be required.
