Overview
The Wichita Falls District is looking for an Area Engineer in our Graham Area Office.
Responsibilities
- Oversee construction operations in the area office, including review of shop drawings, compliance with regulations, approval of letting advertising, conducting pre-construction meetings and public hearings, and oversight of Design Section operations in the area office.
- Oversee inspection of construction projects and temporary traffic control, and manage maintenance section planning and budgeting with maintenance supervisors and district staff.
- Coordinate right-of-way plan preparation and monitor acquisition processes to coordinate project letting, utility relocation / adjustment inspection, and material testing and construction engineering.
- Approve and inspect driveway, utility and drainage fill permits, and monitor removal of illegal signs.
- Direct development of work programs to meet transportation needs within the assigned geographical area.
- Provide direction for construction projects and / or contract change negotiations; oversee contractor compliance with plans and specifications; authorize payment of estimates; resolve differences, disputes and claims; and approve expenditures.
- Oversee emergency procedures, preparedness and response for a geographic area; respond to office or incident locations to direct activities for emergency situations as required.
- Represent the Department to the public; answer inquiries from governmental officials; make media presentations; speak at public functions and participate in civic engagements.
- Review, recommend and approve change orders; perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelors Degree in engineering or related science; bachelors or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience
5 years transportation engineering (experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.1 year supervisory / managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory / managerial experience.Licenses and Certifications
Valid drivers license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.Licensed Professional EngineerProfessional engineers licensed in another state, not currently licensed in Texas, must meet Texas license requirements within six (6) months of hire and sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.Competencies
