Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for 12-hour night shifts in an acute care setting, requiring a current CA RN license and advanced certifications.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position is in the Emergency Department of an acute care hospital
  • Unit includes 19 ED beds, 3 fast track beds, and 2 triage areas with a separate entrance
  • Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4
  • Typical patient population includes standard ER cases; no trauma, STEMI and stroke receiving center
  • Uses Cerner EMR system
  • 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
  • First to float to all other Sacramento facilities; mid-shift float possible but rare
  • Charge RN present but generally not assigned direct patient care except for breaks
  • Staffing includes 2 techs or EMTs per shift, with most being paramedics; patient sitters available as needed and 24 / 7 social services support
  • Bedside report is performed at shift change
  • Block scheduling is generally not available
  • Floor-specific orientation provided with 1-2 days on the floor alongside a preceptor
  • Scrub color is navy, including undershirts and optional scrub jackets
  • Daily responsibilities include caring for a broad spectrum of emergent patient presentations, prioritizing STEMI and stroke cases
  • No ventilator management is needed for this role
  • Hospitalist or Intensivist available in-house 24 / 7, along with RT and Pharmacy support
  • Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance; failure to pass after two attempts results in ineligibility for six months at certain facilities
  • On the first day of orientation, a pass / fail test on sterile technique for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes is administered
  • Candidates may not have worked directly for any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year; PRN work through outside firms may be considered
  • Holiday coverage rotates with core staff
  • Psych holds are managed with security up front
  • Unit features a unique "triangle" configuration with two main hallways at angles to a central hallway

  • Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience required
  • Certifications required : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS
  • Ability to read and interpret EKG strips required
  • Experience using Cerner EMR is beneficial
  • Must provide a copy of your driver’s license for consideration
  • Two references required : one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years
