About the Role

The Company is in search of a Chief Underwriting Officer to lead the strategic and operational aspects of a startup Managing General Agent (MGA) or Managing General Underwriter (MGU) in the commercial insurance sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the overall vision for the MGA / MGU, including the establishment of underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and growth targets. This role demands a seasoned professional with a minimum of 10 years' experience in commercial insurance underwriting, particularly in property and casualty lines, and a proven track record in launching and leading an MGA / MGU.

Key responsibilities for the Chief Underwriting Officer include underwriting management, business development, team building, market analysis, portfolio management, compliance, and risk management. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of insurance market dynamics, underwriting principles, and regulatory compliance, as well as excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in technology and data analytics is essential for driving underwriting decisions and operational efficiency. The role also requires the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving business environment and a focus on innovation and continuous improvement. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with an advanced degree or professional certifications being preferred.
