Position Title : Security Manager
Reports To : Zoo Director
Supervises : Security Department, including Assistant Security Manager, Security Supervisor, Assistant Maintainers and Admissions, Department Ticket Agents, Seasonal Guest Relations Associates
Position Objective : To manage the daily operations of the Prospect Park Zoo Security and Admissions Departments, and ensure the department is operated safely and efficiently, consistent with the policies and procedures of the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Principal Responsibilities
- Lead and manage day to day activities and department staff of the Security and Admissions Department. Collaborate with other departments to facilitate positive guest experiences.
- Provide consistently excellent customer service to zoo guests and fellow employees. Create a safe and welcoming environment for all guests. Build a strong customer focused culture within the department.
- Manage the department's approved operating budget in accordance with established WCS policies and procedures. Provide regular budget updates to Zoo Director.
- Build relationships and coordinate Security Department activities between PPZ, New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, Prospect Park Alliance, NYPD, NYFD, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Monitor all alarm (e.g. fire, intrusion, life support) and video systems.
- Ensure that all department systems (e.g. alarm, video systems, lock / key / gate cards, change machines, coin counters, drop safes, etc.) are operating in a serviceable state. Manage relationship with systems vendor(s), and arrange repairs, as needed. Maintain and upgrade department equipment as necessary.
- Supervise the production of roll calls and make changes and adjustments to reflect the daily needs of the Department / Facility.
- Coordinate Security and Admissions staffing and activities at zoo special events / rental events as assigned. Implement and monitor safety and security plans to protect guests and staff working or attending special / rental events scheduled outside normal operating hours.
- Collaborate with other PPZ departments and other WCS Security and Admission departments to ensure consistent procedures across departments and facilities.
- Lead and plan safety and security training at PPZ. Ensure all security staff maintain required security licensing and attend annual training. Coordinate zoo-wide training for emergency procedures, first aid and CPR.
- Assist zoo guests with first aid, lost & found, reuniting lost children with parents / guardians, and other security / safety needs.
- Serve on the zoo's Emergency Response Team.
- Serve as the official firearms custodian for Prospect Park Zoo on behalf of WCS in accordance with requirements of the NYPD License Division. Safeguard and maintain zoo firearms and ammunition. Ensure firearms are in working order properly secured in a firearms safe.
- Ensure all required emergency drills are conducted at least annually in accordance with AZA Accreditation standards.
- Maintain and update the zoo's Emergency Manual. Develop new procedures and modify / improve existing protocols as warranted in collaboration with the Director and other WCS and City stakeholders. Review all emergency protocols at least annually. Stay current on regulations and best practices, including Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accreditation standards and related policies.
- Maintain FDNY Certificates of Fitness (e.g. F07 Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor and S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems) to fulfill job functions. Ensure that other department staff obtain and maintain all appropriate Certificates of Fitness.
- Review all guest and staff accident reports. Recommend protocol changes and / or safety enhancements as warranted.
- Manage access / use of zoo service area parking to ensure adequate parking for approved staff and vendors.
- Manage the operation of animal feed machines, including, coin collection, restocking animal feed, and coordination with the Animal Department for acquiring animal feed. Coordinate repair and maintenance of machines.
- Lead cash management activities within the zoo. Coordinate and conduct money transfers with WCS Treasury Department and armored car representatives. Manage cash collection and delivery at all cashier locations within the zoo. Proof the Admissions safe to the designated amount and ensure sufficient amounts of coin and small bills are on site by utilizing cash exchanges.
- Monitor and report daily Admissions overages and shortages to WCS Treasury / Accounting.
- Maintain training and knowledge in the use and management of the zoo's POS Admissions software.
- Complete required reports as assigned by Zoo Director (e.g. attendance reports, accident investigation reports, daily facility reports).
- Lead department employee recruitment, training, and performance management.
- May serve as facility safety officer and represent PPZ at WCS Safety Committee meetings. Safety officer coordinates development / reporting of incident reports (guest / staff injuries), collaborates to assemble reports (staff / guest incident reports, training, and safety assessments) and chairs PPZ quarterly safety committee meetings / reviews).
- Represent WCS in a professional manner, establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with employees, colleagues, City and other government agencies, outside contractors, and the general public.

Qualification Requirements
Requirements :
Five (5) years minimum experience supervising employees required. Previous combination of security management, guest services management, or public safety experience preferred.Basic computer skills to include email, word processing, spreadsheet, and Point of Sale software. Microsoft software (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Gateway POS skills preferred.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Must be able to work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and variable shifts.Valid NY, NJ or CT Driver's license preferred.First aid training & AED / defibrillator training preferred.Must successfully pass a background check.Must be able to successfully obtain a NYC rifle / shotgun permit and to successfully complete all required training in order to serve on the zoo's Emergency Response Team.Must be able to successfully obtain FDNY certification as a Fire / Emergency Drill Conductor.Physical Requirements : The position requires work in office environments as well as outdoor work in all weather conditions. Tasks require manual dexterity for various tasks (e.g. computer keyboard, copier, mobile radios). Some tasks require kneeling, bending, navigating uneven terrain, and moderate lifting up to 50 pounds.

Salary Range : $75,000.00 to $85,000.00
