Controller
The controller is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling the accounting and control functions of the plant; timely and accurately reports the results of operations.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
Provides plant manager with financial insights including short and long range planning; administers the plant accounting systems and controls.
- Ensures compliance with the various legal, regulatory, and tax requirements associated with the plant.
- Compares performance with operating plans and standards.
- Provides reports and interprets the results of operations to all levels of management.
- Identifies labor, yield and inventory variances and seeks the reasons for such through contact with applicable department heads.
- Compiles concise monthly report detailing all meaningful variances and known explanations for such; ensures required records are adequate, accurate and timely.
- Interprets financial reports and promotes site financial understanding.
- Attends and contributes in plant meetings.
- Accurately gathers, compiles and distributes the plant's production information.
- Assembles annual operating budget with information compiled by the department heads and the plant manager. Researches and identifies budget variances.
- Develops meaningful production and financial reporting systems to be utilized by applicable personnel to measure performance. Provides departments with related information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
- Monitors inventory levels and accuracy. Advises plant manager regarding variances to budget. Verifies raw material and finished good inventories via cycle count program.
- Preparation of financial statements and operating data.
- Ensures forecasts incorporate all known variables.
- Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
- Ensures standard product cost system is maintained and changes are processed in an accurate and timely manner. Aspects of product development, introduction, and maintenance are followed.
- Assures protection for the assets of the business through internal control and internal auditing. This includes capital project pre submission review, capital project post audits, accurate fixed asset ledger, and compliance with Rich's Capital Policy.
- Monitors general ledger accounts and reconciles monthly.
- Performs other duties and handles special projects from time to time as assigned by group controller, finance directors, and plant manager.
- Ensures property taxes are filed timely and accurately and plant legal and regulatory filing obligations are met.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
