Step into the heartbeat of automated operations
Each shift, you arrive on site ready to steer Symbotic’s robotic material handling system to peak performance. You sync with the customer’s local leadership, review KPI dashboards, and walk the structure to verify safety, quality, and staffing. You coach a blended team of hourly and salaried associates, align standard operating procedures to changing conditions, and communicate insights to our Automation General Manager and Symbotic headquarters.
About the role
As the Shift Leader within Symbotic’s Customer Operations organization, you are the on-the-floor owner of day-to-day site operations. You ensure OSHA-aligned safety practices, deliver best-in-class quality, and protect system uptime and throughput for our customer.
What you’ll do
- Champion daily safety, meeting OSHA requirements and adhering to Symbotic and customer procedures.
- Manage and schedule a team of hourly and salaried employees to match the customer’s operating hours.
- Execute and refine SOPs to enhance performance across multiple system levels; adjust quickly to business fluctuations.
- Staff, train, and develop the team; set goals, provide coaching, and complete performance reviews.
- Build and document standards, processes, procedures, and playbooks to resolve system issues consistently.
- Continuously train, assess, and motivate team members to exceed customer expectations.
- Collaborate frequently with the customer’s site leaders and with Symbotic HQ to drive operational excellence.
- Monitor system health, analyze trends, and present corrective actions and proactive improvements.
- Produce KPI reports as defined by contractual requirements.
- Lead accident investigations per company guidelines; apply sound judgment and document findings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, or Industrial Automation—or equivalent experience.3+ years of management and operations experience in manufacturing or a related environment.Working knowledge of automation, warehousing, and end-to-end business processes.Proven leadership that motivates cross-functional and cross-facility teams.Comfort interacting with executives and customers to influence outcomes and elevate performance.Ability to work independently, following maintenance procedures and manuals.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Work environment and physical expectations
Frequent stair climbing within the automation structure; routine exposure to elevated railings.Indoor conditions with potential temperature variation from 105°ree; to 32°ree; F.Periodic work in construction areas requiring PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, fall protection / harness).Safely lift up to 50 lbs and move items up to 80 lbs.Stand and walk up to 10–12 hours; frequent reaching with hands and arms.Work at heights up to 45 feet and in confined areas as narrow as 24 inches; ability to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.Capable of feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive motion with both hands and feet. Comply with all safety protocols, including Lockout / Tagout and fall protection.Compensation and benefits
The base range for this position in Melrose Park, IL is $75,000–$85,000 annually. Actual base pay may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), PTO, and other benefits.
