Description :

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for the preparation of the surgical suite.

They will handle instruments during surgical procedures.

Maintaining the sterile field is essential for their role.

The Technologist will evaluate changing conditions during surgical procedures and respond as needed.

They must maintain knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to these procedures.

The Technologist may serve as a Preceptor.

An Associate's Degree or equivalent from an accredited school of surgical technology is required.

Not all schools require an Associate's degree.

The Technologist must be able to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team.

They should have an aptitude for working with high-tech equipment.

Attention to detail is critical in this role.

Intact sight and hearing are necessary.

Good eye / hand coordination is required, especially when handling sutures and instruments.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Interpersonal skills are also necessary for this position.

The ability to manage time and organize tasks is important.

They must be self-directed and able to make independent, quality decisions.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are important.

This role requires the ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines.

The Technologist must maintain strict confidentiality.

Listening skills are essential.

Competency in the use of various computer hardware and software systems is required.

Maintaining confidentiality of information is crucial.

Essential Functions :

Providing sterile instruments and supplies during surgical procedures is necessary.

They perform surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts.

Creating and maintaining a sterile and safe environment is an essential duty.

Preparing case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications for each surgical case is required.

The Technologist assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and ensures a protective position throughout the case.

They will work proactively with physicians to submit changes to preference cards.

Suggesting instrument set changes and working with identification of needed updates is part of the role.

Engagement in case costing discussions with surgeons is expected.

The Technologist must participate in safety initiatives and complete all safety-related competencies in a timely manner.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
