Description :

This position is in a pediatric MedSurg / Stepdown unit.

The unit consists of 12 beds, with a mix of semi-private rooms.

Staffing ratios typically vary according to patient age.

Most common ratios are 1 to 4, but can increase to 1 to 6 during specific cases.

Pediatric patients may include bili babies, those with respiratory issues, RSV, cellulitis, and patients receiving IV antibiotics.

RNs are not required to titrate drips, though they may manage IV fluids and possible insulin.

Nurses may be required to assist with IV placements for emergency staff.

Outpatient lab collections and straight catheterizations may be performed on the unit.

Charge nurses are present in leadership roles.

A pediatric hospitalist is available within 30 minutes, with one hospitalist on-site during nights.

There are no telemetry responsibilities on this unit; nurses do not read strips.

Shifts are from 7 PM to 7 : 30 AM.

Weekend work is required at least every third weekend, with additional needs as they arise.

Holidays may require staff coverage as needed.

Floating to other units may be required based on census.

The dress code is royal blue scrubs.

Orientation typically lasts between 2 to 3 days.

Cancellations are allowed per the terms of the assignment.

Experience with pediatric patients is essential for this role.
