Join our dynamic Facilities Maintenance Department on the UCF Lake Nona Campus as a Plumber I, providing essential plumbing support in the operational maintenance, installation, and repair of sanitation components of campus facilities. This position will troubleshoot and respond to customer requests to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform scheduled and assigned preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PDM) to identify or prevent potential plumbing failures.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance repairs (PMR) by addressing defects found during PM or PDM activities.
  • Complete corrective repairs in response to reported issues to restore functionality.
  • Carry out planned work related to heating and plumbing trades.
  • Install, maintain, test, and calibrate plumbing components connected with water, gas, air, and sewer systems in bathrooms, laboratories, and kitchens.
  • Maintain and operate various pieces of equipment, including pumps, faucets, valves, traps, pipes, water heaters, and emergency showers.
  • Operate and monitor sewage systems using recording equipment to troubleshoot problems.
  • Locate and repair plumbing failures and malfunctions; install, maintain, and repair backflow preventers; make emergency plumbing repairs as needed.
  • Assist with work performed by central shops, contractors, other zones, departments, and campus events.
  • Perform routine recurring work, as well as project work associated with facilities and capital improvement programs.
  • Complete work orders promptly, recording labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and detailed trade notes.
  • Report any special conditions, deficiencies, or issues that require further attention to your supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance, health, sanitation, university, state, and federal regulations and policies.
  • Support inventory control, maintain security of tools and materials, and participate in required safety training.
  • Collaborate with other Facilities Operations teams and departments to support campus operations.
  • Assist other Facilities Operations zones during personnel shortages or emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in plumbing; or a high school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Florida Statute 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Working knowledge of plumbing trades classifications and functions, including tools, equipment, materials, and task-specific sequencing for maintenance, sanitation, and repairs.
  • Familiar with operating powered drain-cleaning equipment and identifying campus-wide water and gas shut-off points.
  • Ability to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (iPad for AiM PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.
  • General facilities experience within areas of carpentry, HVAC, or similar, and possess painting knowledge and skills.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications for work order systems (IWMS).
  • Capable of understanding and following written / oral instructions with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use approved EH&S chemicals to perform essential job functions.
  • Able to operate a vehicle, as necessary.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in the following : memory, calculation, reading, and evaluating.
  • Experience reading blueprints, using various electrical meters, and constructing and installing power supplies.
  • Flexibility for utilization by trade for most urgent requirements and adaptable to assignments.
  • Health Assessment Required :

    UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

    Special Instructions to the Applicants :

    The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.29 - $27.14. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

    This is an Auxiliary (AUX) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

    Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
