A day in this role
From first setup to final inspection, you’ll guide complex aerospace parts through multi‑axis CNC and conventional equipment. You’ll move confidently between 2, 3, 4, and 5‑axis mills and lathes, execute your own complex setups, and keep production flowing with minimal supervision. You’ll read prints, prep machines, run tests to confirm programs and settings, and verify every critical dimension before the part moves on.
What you’ll do
- Operate multiple CNC and conventional machines (mills and lathes) across 2–5 axes.
- Complete pre‑operation inspections to ensure equipment readiness.
- Interpret blueprints, manuals, and job specs to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequences, and setup requirements.
- Independently perform complex setups, including adjusting jaws, tools, and offsets.
- Use forklifts to retrieve and stage workpieces; load parts safely.
- Handle materials with cranes and hoists as required.
- Run test operations to verify machine settings and programming accuracy before release to full production.
- Select and secure tooling, fixtures, and raw material.
- Set and fine‑tune speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut for optimal quality and throughput.
- Continuously monitor machining, making real‑time adjustments as needed.
- Measure and verify part conformance to specifications.
- Record time on each task in designated systems.
