Junior RF Engineer

NWS, a leading telecommunications distribution company provides an extensive portfolio of world-class products from leading manufacturers. These offerings include Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) hardware, infrastructure solutions such as macro base-station antennas, cable and connector solutions, passive components, and state-of-the-art test and measurement solutions. We are looking for a Junior Engineer to contribute to our company's growth objectives. In your role you will work closely with members of the Engineering, Operations and Sales teams along with various customers, and vendors.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services; You will be responsible for RF Engineering & professional services in various design disciplines such as in-building DAS, Microwave Path profile, and Link budget analysis. Engaging with the sales & product line management teams, you will generate Bill of material lists for customer projects, provide customer facing training and technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering & professional services program delivery, tracking & KPI maintenance.

Develop and maintain best in class knowledge and skills to deliver high quality accurate professional services & designs including but not limited to initial estimates, preliminary design, detailed designs, engineered drawings for construction and project close out documentation.

  • Maintain accurate time management records to ensure engineering efforts are accurately captured for KPI reporting and project billing.
  • Conduct radio systems design, commissioning and testing for LMR / P25 / TETRA / GSM / UMTS / LTE / NR technologies.
  • Apply propagation theory, cellular theory, RF engineering tools and antenna theory to maximize coverage, capacity, and performance of a network.
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional teams to deliver project designs.
  • Take full accountability and ownership of project lifecycle from concept, ROM / BOM, design, delivery, training.
  • Use network performance tools to analyze network stats and pinpoint performance issues of wireless networks.
  • Understand In-building design and optimization.
  • Apply networking knowledge regarding IP assignment, LAN segmenting and routing.
  • Manipulate, test, and terminate different cable types such as Coax, Category cable or fiber.
  • Represent NWS in client meetings and project meetings as required to develop and grow NWS professional services revenue and market share.
  • Participate in network testing on sites, requiring physical activities, be that for data gathering, commissioning, testing and verification.
  • Role requires valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Engineering & professional services team development & continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with senior team members to develop both NWS engineering resource plans and outsource partners to support NWS Engineering team expansion and scalability.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the wider NWS team.
  • Provide quality assurance and peer review of documentation, proposals and field engineering to maintain quality and accuracy of NWS deliverables and to maintain NWS position leaders in the engineering services field.
  • Engineering & professional services customer training
  • Work in close collaboration with NWS Sales and NWS engineering teams to develop and deliver dedicated training programs for client field teams to facilitate and streamline on site commissioning and integration activities to ensure all designs and key vendor solutions work correctly.

  • Work closely with customers, NWS sales and engineering team members to ensure NWS professional services training portfolio is constantly and consistently updated to meet changing market needs and customer demands.
  • Project Support
  • Work closely with NWS sales teams, NWS engineering team, NWS outsource partners and downstream client teams to provide support as needed either on-site or remote as required under NWS Engineering Services Framework.

    Education & Experience

  • 1-3 years experience in Wireless Network Design.
  • Experience using design tools such as iBWave, Mentum Planet, ATOLL, and ActixOne (preference may be given for certified candidates).
  • Knowledge of 3GPP (3G WCDMA / UMTS, 4G LTE, 5G NR) radio access network design.
  • Knowledge of 2-Way Radio, Public Safety LMR / P25 / TETRA radio systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of independence, while managing project and customer expectations.
  • Ability to identify and interpret customer requirements and develop plans to address them.
  • Demonstrate integrity, respect for others and ethical behavior.
  • Proficient with SAP B1, MS Office tools, in particular Excel.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Preference may be given to applicants holding a Professional engineer designation in Canada or USA.
