Temporary PK Assistant Teacher (Parental Leave Coverage)

The Carey School, a Preschool to 5th grade independent school in San Mateo, California, seeks an experienced educator for a temporary PreK Assistant Teacher position for parental leave coverage from October 20, 2025 – January 14, 2026, with the possibility of extension.

Our preschool program is rooted in Developmentally Appropriate Practice and draws on philosophies of the Reggio Emilia approach, providing structured and open-ended play time for children to build SEL skills, develop relationships and "learn through doing," while using emergent curriculum themes. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of developmental stages of childhood, strong classroom management strategies, and a willingness to learn from and work with a Lead Teacher to assist and lead small and large group lessons, including daily meetings, literacy and math lessons. Additionally, candidates will have demonstrated successful communication and collaboration with colleagues including grade level partners and specialist teachers.

Responsibilities

• Assist and lead small and large group lessons, including daily meetings, literacy and math lessons.
• Collaborate with the Lead Teacher and grade level partners to implement emergent curriculum themes.
• Engage in developmentally appropriate practices to support SEL skills and relationships among students.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and specialists to support student learning and well-being.
