This role will have a have a high level of responsibility in shaping the application and use of Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing technology for advanced propulsion applications. As part of a small, high-performing team the Senior Software Engineer - Additive Manufacturing will support the design and development of additive manufacturing software, interface with manufacturing data, and undertake tasks crucial for continued development of our production capability. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and prepared to address challenges proactively. Demonstrated experience in delivering well architected and scalable software is essential, along with a commitment to continuous technical learning and a passion for innovative design and manufacturing technologies. Additive manufacturing is vital to Ursa Major's product development and scaling efforts, and this role will be key in driving rapid advancement and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities :

• Lead the architectural design and development of robust software for an advanced, production-scale metal 3D printing system
• Partner with additive manufacturing engineers to implement software and hardware changes that continuously improve print process quality and speed
• Design and develop production-ready control software and sophisticated algorithms for lasing and control systems within printers, ensuring high performance and reliability
• Interface with REST APIs to support various functionalities and ensure seamless communication with different components and systems
• Integrate OPC UA-based communication protocols to ensure robust and secure data exchange between devices and control systems
• Developing standard processes and optimizations around LPBF build file setup and programming
• Review code developed by other engineers, providing constructive feedback to uphold best coding practices, including style guidelines, code integrity, accuracy, testability, and efficiency
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to enable advanced designs for propulsion applications
• Provide input into high level additive manufacturing strategy
• Work alongside the additive engineers and technicians to develop, author, and maintain standard operating procedures for machine operation and related processes
• Desire to work flexible hours as needed to support high machine utilization
• Owns and lives the company values (humility, cohesion, conviction), serving as a values leader within the team
• Seamlessly build and develop relationships with internal and external customers
• Represent Ursa Major as an industry expert in metal additive manufacturing at conferences and stakeholder engagement meetings
