Project/Unit Description

Intelligent Sustainable Technology Division at GTRI performs cutting-edge research ranging from biomarker identification in complex biological systems to advanced sensor development for rapid and robust chemical and biological detection in the field. Researchers also develop novel materials and methods for contaminants removal in air and water.

Job Purpose

A chemist develops procedures, experiments, and analysis to support the fundamental understanding of chemical systems. The chemist works with a variety of laboratory equipment including gas chromatograph mass spectrometer, liquid chromatograph, analytical calorimeter, ultra-violet spectrophotometer, fluorescence microscope, and ion chromatography system. The chemist develops new chemical and biological sensors for DoD and industrial applications, develops new chemical processes for wastewater processing, and develops novel nanoparticles for removal of pathogens and chemicals from a fluid.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform basic tests to determine chemical parameters and conduct data analysis.
• Perform literature surveys on research topics.
• Generate documentation of experiments and results.

Additional Responsibilities

• Conduct the analysis of samples, execution of analytical procedures, data collection, statistical analyses, and report preparation.
• Support field test.
• Provide trainings to students.
• Maintain the performance of the instruments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2026.
• A Research Scientist/Engineer with at least 1 year of experience as a student or professional in conducting research in a wet chemistry laboratory is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience on sensor testing.
• Knowledge on wastewater characterization and waste management.

Travel Requirements

• <10% travel.

Education and Length of Experience

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
