Deputy Fire Marshal Promotional Announcement
Open to Saginaw Fire Department Employees Only
Purpose : The Eligible List resulting from this examination will be used to fill any Deputy Fire Marshal vacancy. The Deputy Fire Marshal is an administrative position that assists with fire prevention activities conducted by the Fire Department. This includes community education, fire code inspections, code enforcement, and fire investigations.
Requirements : Must have served on the Saginaw Fire Department for at least five (5) years on or before the oral interview date on October 9, 2025.
Examination : The examination will consist of the following :
Written Examination : The written Examination will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at City Hall, Human Resources, Ground Floor at 0900 hours. Candidates must attain a passing score of seventy percent (70%) on the written test to be eligible to proceed to the oral examination portion of the promotional process. Study guides will be emailed to applicant upon submission of the application, resume, and cover letter.
Oral Examination : To be held on October 9, 2025.
Application Procedure : Candidates wishing to compete for this position shall complete an application and submit a resume and cover letter on the NEOGov Portal. Deadline to apply is September 29, 2025 at 1600 hours.

Deputy Fire Marshal Application Process Personal Qualifications Rating (PQR) The Deputy Fire Marshal selection process includes three components : a written exam, an oral interview, and a Personal Qualifications Rating (PQR), which accounts for 20% of your total score. To accurately assess your PQR, you must submit a written resume with your application. Your resume should clearly detail your experience and qualifications and be accompanied by all relevant documentation. Acceptable documentation includes, but is not limited to :
Because the PQR significantly impacts your final score, you are also required to submit a cover letter outlining your professional development throughout your fire service career. You will receive an email confirmation that your Application, Resume, and Cover letter have been received upon completion. The source list will be attached to this email.
