Role Overview :
The Senior Buyer is a key member of the procurement organization responsible for managing critical supplier relationships, negotiating strategic agreements, and driving cost reduction initiatives across assigned categories.
This role combines strategic sourcing, hands-on execution, and cross-functional leadership to ensure uninterrupted supply of goods and services while improving total cost of ownership (TCO). The Senior Buyer acts as a business partner to Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Finance, ensuring alignment between procurement strategy and site / business needs.
Core Responsibilities :
- Lead sourcing and procurement activities for assigned categories (raw materials, indirect goods, or services), taking full ownership of strategy, execution, and supplier performance.
- Serve as the primary contact for suppliers and internal stakeholders, ensuring proactive communication, alignment on priorities, and strong cross-functional collaboration with Production, Planning, Quality, and Engineering.
- Champion procurement best practices, cost transparency, compliance, and ethical standards across the organization.
- Drive measurable cost savings through competitive bidding, value engineering, supply base optimization, and total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis.
- Develop and execute cost improvement roadmaps aligned with site and corporate targets.
- Lead complex commercial negotiations, execute long-term supplier agreements, and manage supplier performance through scorecards, KPIs, corrective actions, and QBRs.
- Mentor junior buyers or coordinators to ensure consistency in process execution and professional growth.
- Partner with Technical, Quality, and Finance teams to qualify alternate suppliers, validate savings, track inflationary pressures, and manage spend reporting.
- Maintain supplier risk assessments to ensure business continuity and supply assurance, staying informed on market trends, innovations, and regulatory changes.
- Identify and implement process improvements and system optimizations (ERP / WMS updates, automation initiatives) to enhance efficiency, visibility, and compliance.
- Participate in S&OP and materials review meetings, providing procurement insights and updates on supplier performance and market conditions.
Qualifications : Required
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Engineering, or related field.5–8 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing or procurement, ideally within pharmaceutical, biotech, or specialty chemical manufacturing.Proven track record in supplier negotiation, cost reduction, and category management.Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Comfortable with / able to thrive in conditions of change and complexity.Proven and strong project and change management capabilities.Experience leading, motivating, and developing people through organizational change desirable.Strong leadership, interpersonal, and motivational skills, with the ability to drive behavioral change and inspire, energize, and influence others without direct authorityDemonstrated ownership, accountability, and follow-through in complex, cross-functional environments.Strong analytical and qualitative skills.Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.Salary Range : $105,000 - $120,000 annual base salary
