Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for residential and commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for performing quantity takeoffs, pricing labor and materials, coordinating with suppliers and internal teams, and supporting profitable project execution through reliable pre-construction budgets.
This is an estimating-focused role no engineering design or civil drafting responsibilities are required.
Primary Responsibilities
Estimating & Takeoffs
- Review and interpret construction documents including plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Perform complete and accurate quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Develop detailed project cost estimates and bid proposals using estimating software.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing when applicable.
- Maintain standardized estimating procedures and pricing databases.
Project Coordination & Cost Validation
- Conduct site visits when necessary to validate project conditions and logistics.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Purchasing, and Operations to confirm constructability and cost assumptions.
- Assist with handoff from estimating to operations to ensure scope and budget alignment.
- Investigate and help resolve cost variances between estimated and actual costs.
Risk & Cost Control Support
- Identify potential cost risks, scope gaps, and constructability concerns during bidding.
- Support value-engineering and cost-saving strategies when appropriate.
- Track estimating accuracy and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Reporting & Process Improvement
- Maintain organized estimating files and documentation.
- Prepare summary reports on bid activity, win rates, and estimate accuracy.
- Support implementation and optimization of estimating tools and workflows.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 2+ years of construction estimating experience (sitework, grading, framing, siding, or similar trades preferred).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs and building detailed estimates.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, sorting, and basic analysis).
- Experience with estimating and takeoff software such as:
- Bluebeam
- PlanSwift
- ProEst
- Agtek / InSite / similar (for earthwork if applicable)
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred
- Experience estimating:
- Sitework / excavation / grading or
- Framing and exterior envelope scopes
- Knowledge of local construction markets and vendor pricing.
- Experience supporting value engineering or cost optimization efforts.
- Estimating certifications (CPE, PMP, or similar) a plus but not required.
