Overview

Assistant Professor, Studio Art / Humanities - Tenure Track. The Humanities Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Studio Art with a specialization in painting / drawing. The successful candidate will inspire students through a fresh pedagogical approach, and demonstrate the ability to teach artistic skills and concepts effectively across a range of courses in painting, drawing, 2-D / 3-D foundations, as well as in upper-level studio courses. We are seeking artists whose creative work and teaching is relevant to non-Art majors, as well as to majors in our two new art-based programs, Creative Arts Enterprise and Creative Arts Therapies. Artists with an interest in art and community engagement are encouraged to apply. An M.F.A. degree (or equivalent terminal degree) in studio art and a record of successful college-level teaching experience are required.

Requirements

• M.F.A. degree (or equivalent terminal degree) in Studio Art.
• Record of successful college-level teaching experience.
• Ability to teach courses such as Drawing, Intro Studio, Life Drawing, Intro Painting, Water-Based Media, Design, along with more advanced courses in studio art.
• An active and visible record as a practicing artist.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
• Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.
• Must be able to satisfactorily pass a CORI check and a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
• Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Additional Information

Application Deadline : September 30, 2025. Application Review begins October 1, 2025. This is a full-time, Tenure Track, 9-month benefited position, beginning September 1, 2026. Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience and in accordance with the MSCA Bargaining Agreement.

There are opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate courses.
