Position Summary

The Accounts Payable / Staff Accountant position is a hybrid position responsible for both transaction and financial accounting tasks. Transaction accounting tasks include being responsible for processing accounts payable (PO, non-PO, etc.), accounts receivable and payroll. Financial accounting tasks include being responsible for selected transaction processing, account reconciliations, journal entries as well as project and audit assistance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable / Transaction Accounting (Approx. 70%)

Process accounts payable, including vendor invoices, check runs, and wires / ACH payments.

  • Train AI tools.
  • Process travel and expense reimbursements and advances.
  • Process freight invoices.
  • Process accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and cash applications.
  • Administer bi-weekly payroll for ~325 employees (hourly and salaried). Partner with HR on employee onboarding, terminations, and payroll updates. Maintain employee payroll records, benefit deductions, and garnishments. Serve as a contact for payroll-related employee inquiries.
  • Staff Accountant (Approx. 30%)
  • Perform bank account transaction processing and selected account reconciliations to include payroll, 401K, freight, and credit cards.
  • Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and audits (financial, 401K and tax).
  • Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of transactional accounting experience with 300+ employees strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting and payroll software (QuickBooks, ERP systems, ADP / Paycom / Paychex, etc.).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
  • Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Work Environment

  • Office environment with standard business hours.
  • Hybrid work flexibility may be available based on business needs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
