Job Title : Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession : Nursing Specialty : Emergency Room Nurse Duration : 13 Weeks Shift : 10am - 10pm Hours per Shift : 36 Experience : Greater than one year in a similar unit preferred License : Current RN State licensure required Certifications : BLS certified required Must-Have : Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year of hire Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent within one year of hire De-Escalation training required Description : The registered nurse is a professional practitioner who delivers patient care through the nursing process. Collaborates with the patient, family, and healthcare team to promote positive patient outcomes. Assesses and reassesses patient clinical condition, including objective and subjective assessment data. Develops, implements, and evaluates a patient’s Plan of Care. Utilizes critical thinking skills for patient care and daily operations. Demonstrates clinical competencies and skills applicable to the unit. Coordinates, initiates, and validates teaching based on identified learning needs of the patient and designated support person. Manages, administers, and reconciles medications. Documents patient care, interventions, and responses in the electronic health record timely and accurately. Delegates appropriately according to skill level. Triages according to the ESI triage algorithm. Manages care for sexual assault victims, including paperwork and evidence. Facilitates patient flow. Prioritizes and delegates tasks related to patient care. Communicates clearly with First Responders in the community. Possesses knowledge of roles in codes, including but not limited to : Code Blue in the emergency department, Code Blue in-house, and Code Blue on grounds. Maintains clear and sensitive communication with patients and families dealing with various stages of trauma. Manages expired patients, including notifications and handling of possessions. Ensures safe management of Behavioral Health patients in acute crisis. Follows transfer management per EMTALA guidelines. Performs all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications : Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Greater than one year of working experience in a similar unit with comparable patient acuity is preferred. BLS certification and current RN state licensure required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications must be obtained within one year of hire. De-Escalation training is required. Physical Demands : Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods. Regularly exposed to body fluids with risks associated with bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment when required. Able to lift 25 pounds from floor to waist using proper body mechanics. Able to transfer or position clients greater than 50 pounds with assistance. Requires considerable twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching during many aspects of client care. Able to use one or both hands for grasping, pushing / pulling, and performing procedures. Must be able to accurately read labels and prepare medications. Ability to adapt to continually changing environments. Emotional and mental stability needed to maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and team members. Must be able to hear a forced whisper at five feet.
