Volume : 210–240 births / month (~10 births / day)Rooms / Beds : 22 rooms / 21 bedsPatient Population : Low and high-risk labor patients (antepartum, hypertensive disorders, diabetes, multiples, complex OB cases)Staffing Ratios :Active labor : 1 : 1
Early labor : Max 1 : 2Typically follow AWHONN standardsShifts : 12-hour (07 : 00–19 : 30 / 19 : 00–07 : 30)Schedule : Block scheduling; weekend coverage required (varies by contract)Float : Yes – to Postpartum / Mother-Baby Unit (MBU)Call : RequiredSystems : Pyxis med system, SBAR communication, Electronic chartingRequired
Certifications (hard stops) :BLS, ACLS, NRP
AWHONN Advanced (or C-EFM accepted in lieu)Experience :Minimum 3 years L&D RN experience
Competency in circulating & recovering C-sections, triage, high-risk deliveries, and postpartum emergenciesMust meet AWHONN fetal monitoring competency standardsSkills :Fetal monitoring (external, internal, IUPC, recognition of abnormal patterns)
OB emergencies (hemorrhage, eclampsia, preeclampsia, VBAC, multiples, uterine rupture)Cesarean section (circulate, scrub, recover)Neonatal resuscitation and immediate newborn careMagnesium sulfate, Pitocin, prostaglandins, antihypertensivesPreferred
