Base pay range : $72,000.00 / yr - $92,000.00 / yr

Departmental Overview

The Senior Associate Director of Engagement Programs for the College of Engineering reports to the Executive Director of Engagement Programs within the Office of Marketing and Communications. Working collaboratively to plan and execute college‑wide events and outreach activities to increase engagement among key constituencies, including current and prospective students, alums, donors, faculty, staff and off‑campus partners.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute activities that reflect the mission of the College and serve its strategic goals and priorities.

Determine and analyze requirements on all events and identify budget parameters for each event.

Manage planning and organization logistics such as facilities, audience management systems, vendors, catering, and communication with guests and facility managers.

Develop event scope, engaging stakeholders and creating organizational tools such as timelines and contact lists.

Develop and implement event budgets, cost reviews, and final invoices.

Ensure smooth‑running, effective events, including prompt problem resolution with tact and discretion.

Coordinate college events such as Golden Bear Orientation, Homecoming, Cal Day, Spring Commencement Ceremonies, Dean's Society Events, View from the Top Lecture Series, and other signature programs.

Develop and coordinate guest lists, marketing strategies, registration management, and guest communication.

Create or supervise collateral materials such as name tags, programs, invitations, flyers, and presentations.

Prepare event briefings with program flow and suggested remarks for the event principals.

Work with keynote speakers and VIP guests to ensure successful campus visits.

Contribute to and participate in long‑range unit event planning.

Mentor and oversee the work of less experienced events staff.

Communicate event scope and details to College leadership in in‑person or virtual meetings.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area and / or equivalent experience and training.

Thorough knowledge of event planning and public relations principles and practices.

Good judgment in decision‑making and event management with effective budget and time control.

Organizational and project management skills to work successfully with clients and donors.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Strong judgment and problem‑resolution skills and ability to bring issues to management as needed.

Knowledge of volunteer recruitment, supervision, motivation and evaluation.

Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities.

Experience maintaining high productivity under frequent interruptions.

Ability to work with donors, government officials and university VIPs.

Knowledge of crowd management, safety protocols, security and emergency procedures for events.

Ability to give clear directives and use independent judgment.

Knowledge of work‑standards and protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of the campus, its mission, programs, policies and infrastructure; knowledge of University facility, event management and presentation policies.

Salary & Benefits

$72,000 - $92,000 annually; 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits.

Driving Required

A valid driver’s license and DMV check for driving record is required.
