Job description

Acute Care Tech II - MSICU / PCU

Full-time position located at Bethesda North Hospital, MSICU / PCU. The role focuses on assisting with daily living activities and basic procedures under nurse supervision, performing basic patient care tasks, coordinating patient flow, and maintaining a safe and compliant environment.

Job Overview

This position provides assistance and / or performs basic activities of daily living and specified treatments and procedures under the direct supervision of the nurse. It also includes clerical duties and communication responsibilities.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum 2 years of education).
  • Minimum age 17 with work permit.
  • Reading and math ability appropriate to the position.
  • Phone and pager or patient call system proficiency.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Acknowledges need for self growth and accountability; identifies areas for self improvement.
  • Supports organizational and unit changes and maintains knowledge of changes.
  • Communicates effectively with others, collaborates with healthcare team, and utilizes chain of command.
  • Shows respect to patients, families, and co-workers; documents patient information promptly.
  • Answers patient calls and relays accurate messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists internal and external customers in directing and facilitating unit flow.
  • Maintains a safe environment; reports safety hazards and completes safety event reports.
  • Complies with Infection Control policies and demonstrates knowledge of safety / emergency procedures.
  • Places emergency calls in a timely manner (Code Blue, Fire, Rapid Response Team).
  • Maintains the medical record and performs computer downtime procedures as required.
  • Provides clerical support to unit as directed by charge nurse or manager.
  • Performs and documents basic patient care tasks under nurse supervision and maintains competency.
  • Seeks clarification from the nurse when in doubt about how to proceed.
  • Performs supply, equipment, and environmental-related activities; reports problems with availability promptly.
  • Assures equipment and supplies are readily available for use by the next person.
