Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist 2 (Per Diem) functions as a journey-level clinician, responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering Occupational Therapy services to patients as assigned by the Occupational Therapy Supervisor. Incumbents typically bring experience across a variety of clinical settings and can function with minimal supervision.

The OT 2 independently evaluates, develops, and implements treatment programs for patients with complex needs, exercising sound clinical judgment in documentation and patient care. This role also serves as a resource for entry-level Occupational Therapists, provides clinical guidance, assists with staff orientation, and participates in departmental training and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients, develop individualized treatment plans, and implement evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions.
  • Provide therapy services for patients with complex medical or functional needs.
  • Document evaluations, progress notes, and discharge plans in compliance with department and regulatory standards.
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment in assessing patient needs and adjusting treatment plans.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to entry-level Occupational Therapists and therapy support staff.
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation of new staff.
  • Participate in departmental training, professional development, and quality improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams, patients, and families to support optimal patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and / or certification if required for the position

  • California Licensed Occupational Therapist
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Graduated from an accredited Occupational therapy program (Bachelor's degree or higher) in the U.S. or completed requirements for foreign-trained Occupational therapists working in the U.S.
  • 2 years of clinical experience in the field of Occupational Therapy, working with adults
  • Experienced in documentation via Electronic Medical Record
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills of occupational therapy theory and practices as evidenced by several years of clinical experience
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed occupational therapist as required and assigned by UC Davis JV Rehab Hospital Leadership
  • Ability to communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients to work as a team member
  • Willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy evaluation techniques, such as range of motion testing, muscle testing, cognitive / perceptual testing, activities of daily living evaluation, sensory testing, use of standardized testing of upper extremity function
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy treatment modalities, including activities of daily living and transfer training, strengthening, coordination, balance, range of motion, perceptual / cognitive skills training, wheelchair prescription, fabrication of splints, and adapted devices
  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
  • Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs; home visiting as necessary
  • Ability to communicate clearly on a professional basis with physicians and work cooperatively with a variety of health care professionals
  • Knowledge of requirements in processing for third-party payors
  • Ability to write progress notes, discharge plans, and other written reports as requested
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Ability to organize time. Ability to be flexible and cooperative.
  • Ability to verbally communicate pertinent information and knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel
  • Ability to organize training material
  • Skill in organizing written material
  • Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record keeping
  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
  • Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical Educator Certification through the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
  • 2 years of experience working in inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing (SNF), acute care, or an LTACH
  • Experience working with neurological diagnoses

  • 90% - Provides Occupational Therapy services to patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings

  • Department Overview

    The primary purpose of the Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. The hospital is a 52-bed Rehabilitation Hospital on the Sacramento Medical Center campus. It is equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units where patients can practice typical activities of daily living. The Rehabilitation Hospital also includes a 12-bed brain injury unit and four private rooms for bariatric patients.
