Christmas Assistant

This position provides vital support to the officers and staff during the Christmas season by assisting with all aspects of holiday operations. Responsibilities include transporting and managing donation kettles, delivering and picking up supplies, and providing transportation for bell ringers as needed. The role also involves handling bank deposits, distributing and collecting Angel Tree tags, picking up and organizing toy donations, and assisting with the setup and tear-down of the toy distribution area.

Additionally, the position helps coordinate and direct volunteers to ensure a smooth and efficient toy distribution day.

Essential duties and responsibilities include :

  • Assist Corps Officer with hiring paperwork and onboarding of paid bell ringers.
  • Assist in providing all necessary data on all bell ringers as they are hired. This must be done daily. See that all paperwork is duplicated, the appropriate temporary employee form is filled out, and the documents are submitted to DHQ when requested.
  • Learn Register to Ring site and assist Corps Officer with schedules of volunteers and placement of paid workers.
  • Along with the Corps Officer, conduct an orientation meeting with all kettle workers before kettles are scheduled to begin. Review the responsibilities and guidelines. If the kettle worker has not completed any of the required paperwork, this MUST be done at this time.
  • Assist in dropping toy bins and Angel Tree tags off at participating businesses in Mount Vernon and Anacortes.
  • Drop kettles off at the beginning of scheduled bell ringing shifts, and pick up kettles at the end of scheduled shifts.
  • Make sure all stands and signs are delivered to kettle sites the day before kettles are scheduled to begin.
  • The coordinator must be available at the beginning and end of each day to assign workers to sites (matching best workers with most productive areas), discuss problems, and answer questions.
  • The coordinator must be available to drop off and pick up workers.
  • Coordinates the usage of volunteers for kettles and special events.
  • Establishes driver schedules and routes.
  • Perform "spot checks" on workers throughout the day to ensure the best possible image is being presented.
  • Troubleshoot any problems with bell ringers, managers, drivers, etc.
  • Assist with dropping deposits off at US Bank and learning the deposit process with Corps Officers.
  • Checking toy bins at participating toy drive partners throughout Mount Vernon and Anacortes
  • Assist Corps Officer in Adopt a Teen program.
  • Assist in setting up toy room, organize volunteers as needed, and help organize and execute toy distribution.
  • Other seasonal duties as assigned.

Education requirements :

  • High school diploma required. Some post-secondary education preferred.
  • Experience :

  • A minimum of six months related experience; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certificates, licenses, registrations :

  • Valid Washington driver's license with a good MV record
  • Physical requirements :

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate a cell phone and computer
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. (toy bags, heavy coin bags and kettles).
  • Ability to understand written information.
