Account Clerk

As an Account Clerk with the City and County of Honolulu, you'll play a vital role in keeping our fiscal records accurate and helping our departments run smoothly. The Department of Customer Services, Division of Motor Vehicles, is hiring for an Account Clerk in Honolulu. What you will do :

  • Maintain and reconcile ledgers and financial records to prepare monthly reports and statements.
  • Review and post transactions from Driver's License Stations, Satellite City Halls, and other branches to ensure accuracy and compliance with procedures.
  • Audit and balance collections, advise staff on proper reporting methods, and correct posting errors.
  • Process and verify requests, prepare related vouchers and ensure accurate account postings.
  • Organize and review financial documents for data processing and confirm that system reports match actual collections.
  • Perform other related accounting and clerical duties as needed.

    Minimum qualification requirements :

    At the time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. Education requirement : Equivalent to graduation from high school. Experience requirement : Three (3) years of clerical experience, two (2) years of which shall have been in account record keeping work.

    Key Skills and Competencies Needed :

  • Knowledge of and experience in applying bookkeeping principles and practices;
  • Familiarity with general office practices and procedures, filing methods and systems, and the use of standard office machines;
  • Strong knowledge of grammar, spelling, and word usage;
  • Ability to maintain fiscal accounts and records and detect errors in posting and calculations;
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and statements and interpret fiscal records and data;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Substitution :

  • An Associate degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of clerical experience and up to one year of account record keeping experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university will substitute for all of the required experience.
  • The education substitution must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college / university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
