Position Summary

As the Chief Estimator – HVAC & Plumbing, you will take ownership of the estimating department and play a critical role in shaping its future. You’ll lead and mentor a team of estimators, implement standardized processes and SOPs, and ensure accuracy and profitability across commercial project bids.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of at least three direct-report estimators, promoting technical excellence and collaboration.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for estimating processes, tools, and workflows to support company growth.
• Review and validate estimates for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness, ensuring profitability across a range of commercial mechanical projects.
• Oversee estimating databases, pricing libraries, labor rates, and vendor catalogs to ensure current, accurate, and competitive information.
• Partner with leadership, project management, and operations to ensure a smooth transition from estimate to execution.
• Provide technical expertise in both HVAC and Plumbing estimating, including load calculations, fixture take-offs, piping systems, and code compliance.
• Build a high-performing team culture focused on continuous improvement, accuracy, and accountability.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an estimating leadership role with a commercial mechanical contractor.
• Proven track record managing a team of 3 or more estimators.
• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing SOPs for estimating functions.
• Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with both HVAC and Plumbing systems.
• Proficiency with commercial estimating software and methodologies.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Willingness to relocate to the Kansas City area.
