Accounting Intern Accounts Receivable

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our Accounts Receivable (AR) team. This role is ideal for a senior undergraduate student in Accounting, Finance, or a related field who is eager to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting operations.
Position Overview
The Accounting Intern will support the day-to-day operations of the AR team within a dynamic nonprofit accounting department. The intern will assist with processing payments, grant invoicing, reconciliations, and supporting compliance with funder requirements. This full-time but flexible internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in AR management, exposure to nonprofit financial operations, and mentorship from experienced finance professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and record incoming payments, invoices, and revenue transactions.
- Assist with preparation and submission of monthly billing, grant drawdowns, and government contract invoicing.
- Maintain and reconcile AR aging schedules to ensure timely collections and accurate reporting.
- Review supporting documentation to ensure compliance with government, foundation, and donor requirements.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Collaborate with Development and Program teams to reconcile contributions, grants, and receivables.
- Assist with audit preparation by gathering supporting documentation and preparing schedules.
- Contribute to process improvements and documentation of AR procedures.
- Perform special projects and analyses as assigned by the Senior Manager, Accounts Receivable.
Qualifications
Current senior (or strong junior) pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Solid understanding of accounting principles (knowledge of GAAP preferred).Interest in nonprofit accounting, compliance, and funder reporting.Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar) a plus.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.What You Will Gain
