Job Brief
Kable Workforce Solutions is hiring a Materials Engineer for our client. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing heat-treating procedures for ferrous and non-ferrous materials used in production. The position includes analyzing material properties, recommending appropriate alloys and treatments, overseeing process control, and ensuring product quality through metallurgical evaluation and compliance with ISO and CQI-9 standards.
What’s a Typical Day Like?
- Develop, implement, and optimize heat treating procedures for ferrous and non-ferrous materials used in production.
- Analyze material properties and recommend appropriate alloys, treatments, or coatings based on design and performance needs.
- Oversee process control and quality assurance related to hardness, microstructure, and mechanical properties.
- Support production teams with troubleshooting and root cause analysis of material or process-related issues.
- Collaborate with quality, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure compliance with ISO, CQI-9, and customer-specific requirements.
- Maintain and update technical documentation, including process specifications, control plans, and metallurgical reports.
- Conduct failure analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in heat treating and materials processing.
- Stay current with advancements in materials science and heat treatment technologies.
What Are the Requirements of the Job?
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).3+ years of professional experience in heat treating or metallurgical processes in a manufacturing environment.Strong understanding of metallurgy, phase transformations, and material characterization techniques.Hands-on experience with furnace operations, process control, and CQI-9 compliance.Skilled in hardness testing, microstructural evaluation, and metallographic analysis.Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.Excellent teamwork and communication skills.Experience in automotive, aerospace, or precision manufacturing industries.Knowledge of vacuum, induction, or controlled atmosphere furnaces.Familiarity with heat treat simulation software or data collection systems.Certification or advanced training in CQI-9 or metallurgical quality systems.Ability to work in fast-paced environment.Ability to move or lift up to 50+ lbs.Ability to reach, grasp, hold, push, pull, bend, twist, squat, climb, kneel.Ability to utilize hand / eye coordination.Capability to stand for prolonged periods of timeCommunication skills.How to Apply And Next Steps?
