The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works externally at client facilities to perform radiology diagnostic tests for patients. They have expertise in nuclear medicine procedures, utilizing radiopharmaceuticals to produce diagnostic images for physicians to interpret.
Nuclear Medicine Technologist Requirements :
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing diagnostic procedures and related responsibilities in a hospital or outpatient setting; two (2) + years preferred
- Minimum of Associates degree in related filed; preferred Bachelors degree in related field
- Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Radiology Technology program required
- Certification / Licensure : 1) ARRT or 2) NMTCB
- Valid Drivers License in the State of employment and eligible to maintain insurability
- Experience with hybrid imaging modalities, such as PET / CT and SPECT / CT
- Knowledge of advanced radiology techniques, including Doppler and elastography
- Familiarity with PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and other imaging software
Nuclear Medicine Job Responsibilities :
Perform a variety of nuclear medicine procedures, including PET scans, SPECT scans, bone scans, thyroid scans, and cardiac imagingPrepare patients for imaging procedures, explaining the process clearly to ensure their comfort and understandingMonitor patients during and after procedures for any adverse reactions to radiopharmaceuticals or other medicationsAdhere to radiation safety protocols and guidelines to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary radiation exposureOperate and maintain imaging equipment such as gamma cameras, PET scanners, and SPECT / CT systemsTroubleshoot any equipment issues and report malfunctions to the appropriate department for repairsAccurately document patient details, procedures performed, and radiopharmaceuticals usedWork closely with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other healthcare providers to assist in the interpretation of imaging resultsProvide technical expertise in identifying imaging anomalies and assisting with diagnostic proceduresMonitor the quality of imaging results, making adjustments as necessary to ensure clarity and diagnostic utilityStay up-to-date with advancements in nuclear medicine techniques and technologies through continuing education and trainingEnsure all procedures are in compliance with relevant regulations, including radiation safety guidelines, hospital protocols, and industry standardsFollow infection control procedures and maintain a clean and safe working environmentSkills :
Ability to operate radiology equipmentAbility to maintain quality control standardsAbility to work independently with minimal to no supervisionAbility to multi-task efficiently and effectivelyAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff at client facilities, management and peersStrong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with people in difficult, stressful situationsExcellent communication skillsSupervision :
Position reports to Zone Manager for appropriate RegionWork Environment :
Position requires providing own transportation to and from client locations to perform duties. Radiology duties performed at client locationsPhysical Effort :
The position occasionally requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heaving lifting up to 20 lbs., pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout time tests are performed. Requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operation of equipmentPublic Contact :
Requires some public contact client patients, client staff and doctors requiring considerable interpersonal skill, professionalism and customer serviceTechnical Skills :
