Responsibilities Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 14 beds and stepdown-level acuity Patient population includes cardiovascular, surgical, and critical care patients Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 RN to 3–4 PCU patients depending on acuity Shift options are 12 hours, days or nights, with two weekend shifts per pay period required Floating to ICU is preferred, with required float to Med / Surg and Telemetry units Equipment used includes Philips cardiac monitors, telemetry, invasive monitoring equipment, Medtronic pacemakers, Pyxis medication dispenser, Cerner EMR, and additional specialized devices Cerner EMR is used for charting Provide acute care to patients undergoing complex cardiovascular and surgical interventions as well as critical care-level procedures PCU is part of the Critical Care service line, with hospitalists managing patient care Daily caseload includes post-cath lab patients, post-op open heart surgery cases, STEMI / NSTEMI, chronic ventilators, and cases involving alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, and new BiPAP / CPAP Testing on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is conducted during orientation Unit dress code is navy scrubs and business-appropriate hair color Candidates who fail required testing may be ineligible for rehire for 6 months Requirements Active and in good standing AZ or compact RN license is required Minimum 1 year of recent PCU (stepdown) nursing experience Current ACLS and BLS certifications are required Proficiency with cardiac rhythm interpretation and IV cardiac medication administration Experience with peritoneal dialysis, chronic ventilators, chest tubes, epidural catheters, PCA pumps, transvenous pacing, and arterial or venous sheath care Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with an 80% minimum within two attempts prior to contract signing Driver’s license must be provided for consideration Two references required : one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility Not eligible if employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-related facility within the past year Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-627996.
