A respected Des Moines-based construction company is seeking a Sr. Level Director to lead its accounting operations and serve as a key financial partner to the CFO and project management team. This is an opportunity to step into a visible leadership role within a collaborative, employee-focused organization known for its long-term stability and commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the Accounting Department, supporting administrative staff and driving continuous improvement
  • Develop strong relationships internally with project teams and other managers
  • Partner with operations leaders to track and refine KPIs, ensuring alignment with company goals
  • Maintain accuracy within financial record to report job costing & WIP reporting
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes and prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain oversight of accounting, tax, and compliance activities, ensuring internal control integrity
  • Monitor cash flow, forecast reserves, and assist in annual budget preparation
  • Coordinate annual ESOP and financial audits, supporting external partners and ensuring full compliance

    • Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 5-10 + years of progressive accounting experience; construction industry background strongly preferred
  • CPA license required or in process
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, and WIP accounting
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands-on management approach
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, Word) and various construction ERP / accounting systems (Sage, Yardi, NetSuite)
