Position Description : Overview
This full-time position ensures the successful implementation of the Campus Conversations program in partnership with higher education institutions to support student success by educating young adults on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The Health Educator II collaborates with young adults and campus staff for program delivery, in and out of class-time, and for on-campus events and activities; facilitates referrals and linkages to adolescent-friendly health care and community services; increases program awareness; and supports the Peer Ambassador Program, including training, events, and implementation.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Facilitates and delivers approved group presentations on teen and unplanned pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and related topics
- Implements curricula and provides technical assistance for program site staff, and others, as needed in consultation with the Program Coordinator
- Provides training and technical assistance to implementation sites, as needed
- In consultation with the Program Coordinator, assists in the development and coordination of adolescent health education
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with assigned project site staff
- Assists assigned agencies in preparing for and participating in implementation of sexual health education curricula
- Assists in the recruitment of youth and coordinating of activities for implementation of programs
- Develops positive and professional rapport with program participants
- Orients, recruits, and supervises peer ambassadors and intern (s) as assigned
- Remains current on topics related to teen and unplanned pregnancy, STIs, and related health topics
- Maintains organized records of activities, monitors data collection, and assists in preparing monthly and semi-annual report
- Represents Talk About It Texas and Healthy Futures of Texas mission in the community, in a positive and professional manner
- Follows compliance standards for the Talk About It Texas brand, and the Healthy Futures parent agency brand
- Works well both as a team member and individually; gives and welcomes feedback, and contributes to building a positive team spirit
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with assigned colleges coordinators and appropriate staff
- With Program Director and Coordinator, helps develops clinical linkages for assigned implementation sites
- Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated passion for and 3-5 years of experience in the field of adolescent sexual health.3-5 years of facilitating evidence-based sexual and reproductive health interventions.3-5 years of experience working directly with youth ages 10-24.3-5 years of experience working in a nonprofit setting.Strategic thinker with strong leadership skills.Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and build working relationships with diverse community members.Excellent written and verbal (English) communications skills; including public speaking and presentation skills.Bachelors Degree in public health or other relevant field from a 4-year accredited college or university; or equivalent experience.Proficiency with Google Drive and MS Office Suite.Preferred Qualifications
