Special Education Teacher for Grades 3-6

Needed :

Special Education Teacher to work in a co-teacher model. Discovery is looking for a certified teacher and may make an exception for teachers in the process of certification, depending on experience and other qualifications. Discovery Charter school is a high performing K-6 school serving a student population of approximately. 95% poverty, 13% ENL, 18% SWD. Discovery has high expectations for students as well as staff. Job Duties :

• Plan and deliver effective lessons
• Differentiate instruction
• Teach reading and writing across the disciplines while integrating mathematics, science, social studies and the arts
• Use student-engaged assessments and data to drive instruction, to create a culture of engagement and achievement
• Build a community of learning school-wide
• Foster character, social-emotional competency and physical development
• Engage families and the community in the life of the school
• Promote adventure while supporting the school's mission and vision
• Perform other instructional duties, as deemed appropriate by the Director

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to work with diverse children, including those with special needs

Ability to work well with parents

Ability to work effectively as a team member

Willingness to be held accountable for student progress

Minimum Qualifications :

Current valid New York State Teaching Certificate at the elementary level with SPED certification

Master's degree in education related field

Prior experience with high need students in an urban setting prioritized

Other requirements :

Master's degree and New York State teaching certification in Special Education required. Preferred candidates have a minimum of 3 years of classroom management experience.

Initial Teaching Certifications accepted. Hours count toward Professional Teaching Certifications.

Pay : $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
