Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Oncology position requiring a current CA RN license and proficiency with Cerner EMR.

Responsibilities

Work in a 24-bed acute care oncology unit with general Med / Surg overflow

Day shift, 12-hour shifts (7 : 00 am – 7 : 30 pm), every other weekend required

First to float, with possible float to other Sacramento area facilities and MS / Tele units

Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1 : 5 for general and 1 : 4 for Tele

Unit uses Cerner EMR

Unit is supported by a charge nurse (typically non-assigned), nurse aides as staffing / census allows, 24 / 7 respiratory therapy, and pharmacy

No vents; telemetry experience required

Unit provides care for oncology and Med / Surg patients, including those requiring telemetry monitoring

Report is given at the bedside

Self-scheduling available but finalized by manager; block scheduling generally not available

Holiday schedule participation required; candidates will work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s) with requests considered but not guaranteed

Floor-specific orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor

Scrub color is navy; under shirts must be navy, white, or black, and scrub jackets (optional) must be navy

Testing on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required during orientation

Previous employees of CommonSpirit (CHI / Dignity) within the past year are not eligible

First-time travelers will be considered

Requirements

Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips

Successful completion of the basic Dysrhythmia (Dys) exam prior to acceptance, or proof of passing Relias Dys exam within last 12 months

Two professional references required : one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years

Copy of driver's license required
