Description
The City of Anaheim Community Services Department is seeking a Program Specialist for the TreePower Program .
Under minimal supervision, this position supports the TreePower Program which provides property owners in Anaheim with appropriate tree species to increase natural cooling within structures and conserve energy. This is a part-time year round position of approximately 30 hours per week and requires some evenings and Saturdays. Bilingual- English / Spanish speaking is highly desirable.
Ideal candidate has some knowledge of arboriculture, landscape design, and horticulture. Experience providing excellent customer service, working independently and communicating effectively.
Incumbents are responsible for setting appointments, coordinating homeowner participation and helping customers select the right trees to provide shade and save energy, following program guidelines, and instructing residents on proper care and maintenance of trees, maintaining exemplary level of customer service, courtesy and professionalism, providing office and clerical support, answering inquiries from the public, logging and processing customer requests and complaints, entering data into database, creating letters, reports, and other written communication as required, keeping and accessing highly detailed records, and participating in community awareness campaigns to promote the program.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :
This class in the Recreation Services series has lead, program coordination, administrative, and / or day-to-day operational responsibilities. Incumbents are responsible for supervising, coordinating, and participating in recreation programs to ensure that City facilities, recreation programs, activities, and service are safe and effective and provide the highest level of customer satisfaction for public use. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and directing the recreation program operations, activities, and services in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the operations and activities of a recreation program and / or facility. This class is distinguished from the Senior Program Specialist in that the latter is responsible for all program planning, staff supervision, and administration for a particular recreational program area.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment.
Note : Possession of a current (less than two years) tuberculosis clearance slip by date of appointment. Fingerprinting at the time of hire is a state-mandated requirement for all employees having direct contact with minors.
Supplemental Information
This is a part-time position usually averaging 20-30 hours per week. A minimum number of hours is not guaranteed.

RETIREMENT - Anaheim employees become members of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
Employees hired prior to or after January 1, 2013, who are an existing CALPERS member or a member of an agency with reciprocity with the City of Anaheim, will be enrolled in the 2.7% @ 55 CalPERS retirement benefit formula. Employees' contribute 4.75% on a pre-tax basis for this enhanced retirement benefit.
Employees hired after January 1, 2013 , who have never been a CALPERS member, or is a member of a retirement system (CalPERS or reciprocal) but has a break in service longer than six (6) months, will be enrolled in the 2% @ 62 CALPERS benefit formula. Employees contribute 6.75% of the normal benefit costs for this retirement benefit.
Members are eligible for a pension at retirement with five or more years of full - time equivalent service and age 55.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN (457) : The City of Anaheim enrolls part-time 20-Hour employees in a Deferred Compensation Plan (457). Employees contribute 7.5% of their earnings (before taxes).
Part time 30-hour and 20-hour Employees hired after March 31, 1986 pay 1.45% contribution towards the Medicare Plan. The City does not participate in Social Security.
