We want to give you the opportunity to grow, earn competitive pay, and be happy while you do it. Sounds simple, but we love it.

Your Opportunity :

Chewy is seeking a Hardware Engineer II to join our Fulfillment Center Design Engineering Team . In this role, you’ll be a key contributor in the design and execution of Chewy’s large‑scale fulfillment and automation infrastructure. You’ll apply data‑driven analysis, mechanical and electrical design skills, and vendor coordination to deliver world‑class fulfillment centers that power Chewy’s continued growth.

You will design and execute capital projects supporting new sites, retrofits, and automation upgrades across facilities up to 1 million square feet , ensuring that material‑handling systems, robotics cells, and process equipment are safe, reliable, and scalable.

What You’ll Do :

  • Develop detailed engineering designs for new ecommerce fulfillment centers and retrofits, including AutoCAD layouts, power / data plans, and process flow documentation for core, pharmacy, and perishables business verticals.
  • Build Excel‑ and SQL‑based models to analyze material flow, throughput, storage capacity, and labor requirements.
  • Create and tabulate Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and vendor bid comparisons; recommend solutions based on technical merit and cost.
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to scope, design, and validate new fulfillment technologies such as conveyance, sortation, and robotic work cells.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for conveyance, automated packaging equipment, and robotics.
  • Ensure all designs meet Chewy’s safety, compliance, and reliability standards, incorporating maintainability and redundancy.
  • Participate in design reviews, cross‑functional coordination, and installation planning alongside Operations, Maintenance, and Controls Engineering teams.
  • Author Capital Approval Requests (CARs) and project documentation for initiatives typically in the $500K–$2M+ range.
  • Document lessons learned and proposed process improvements to standardize designs and increase project velocity.

What You’ll Need :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related Engineering field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 3–6 years of experience in fulfillment, manufacturing, or automation system design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel modeling, and basic SQL / database tools.
  • Familiarity with material‑handling and automation systems (conveyors, robotics, ASRS, or sortation).
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to execute multiple high‑priority projects in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel 25%+ to support site visits, vendor tests, and installations.
  • Bonus :

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with WMS / WCS integration, Ignition, or ladder logic‑based controls systems.
  • Experience developing automated e‑commerce fulfillment infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and summarize large operational data sets.
  • What You’ll Get :

  • A place where you can be your authentic self and grow your career. Our pet parents and partners are from everywhere—different places and different walks of life. It is what makes them unique. Likewise, Chewtopians are encouraged to bring their perspectives to deliver on our mission!
