Salary: $170,000 - 190,000 per year

Requirements:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering for a production, multi-tenant B2B SaaS platform handling financial or regulated data.
• Full-stack expertise with TypeScript and a modern front-end framework (React preferred), plus a back-end language such as Node.js, Python, or C#.
• Experience designing relational data models and operating production PostgreSQL or SQL Server databases on managed cloud services, including performance tuning, backups, and access control.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure, including networking, IAM, KMS, managed databases, containers, and serverless services.
• Experience designing infrastructure as code with Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation, and creating CI/CD pipelines.
• Led or made a primary contribution to a SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, or GovRAMP initiative.
• Designed SSO, role-based access control, and tenant isolation that passed an external penetration test.
• Experience establishing engineering standards and managing vendors, consultants, and contractors.
• U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
• Preferred: experience integrating partner data through APIs, EDI, or SFTP; deploying AI or document-extraction services with model-use data governance; relevant AWS, Azure, CISSP, or CCSP certifications; accessible interface development to WCAG 2.1 AA; or experience as a first engineer.

Responsibilities:

• Lead engineering from the outset, owning the architecture, security, database, and standards for engineers and contractors.
• Design a multi-tenant SaaS platform with strict tenant isolation.
• Establish and manage the relational data model and cloud database, including encryption, access controls, backups, and tested restores; direct the initial database consultant and arrange a future handoff to a Data Integration Engineer.
• Implement identity and security capabilities, including SAML 2.0 and OIDC SSO, enforced MFA, SCIM provisioning, role-based access control, encryption, key and secrets management, and immutable audit logging.
• Write production code across the full stack for approximately 70% of the workweek.
• Design and test backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans with defined recovery point and recovery time objectives.
• Select, integrate, and manage cloud and SaaS services, prioritizing purchasing over custom development where appropriate.
• Lead SOC 2 Type I and Type II efforts with the fractional CISO and design for requirements such as GovRAMP and FedRAMP Moderate.
• Establish engineering practices for coding, reviews, testing, documentation, threat modeling, security testing, dependency scanning, and software bill of materials generation.
• Review work before release, and hire and lead the engineering team as it grows.
• During the first 90 days, establish the reference architecture, threat model, data classification, cloud service choices, engineering standards, and security baseline; bring the hardened database and core identity, tenant-isolation, and logging capabilities into production; complete a SOC 2 readiness gap assessment, schedule an external penetration test, and prepare database documentation for handoff.
