Position Purpose : Administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in collaboration and consultation with attending anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other medical professionals for patient care services including but not limited to surgery, perinatal services, and emergency response. Administers anesthetics within scope of practice and in accordance with clinical privileges.

Essential Functions :

• Participates in pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation.
• Anesthesia equipment and supplies are prepared appropriately for procedures.
• Evaluates the patient pre-operatively by interviewing and examining the patient; assesses data and selects appropriate anesthetic.
• Procedural consent is verified prior to each procedure.
• Patient-specific anesthesia plan of care is formulated from the pre-surgical assessment and is reviewed with attending anesthesiologist, physician, podiatrist, or dentist.
• Implements, monitors, and adjusts patient’s physiologic condition as appropriate for type of anesthesia and specific patient’s needs.
• Transfers the responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post-operatively to assure continuity of care and patient safety.
• Report and completed documentation is provided upon transfer of the patient from intra-operative to post-operative care provider.
• Acute and chronic post-operative pain management modalities are implemented.
• Medications, fluids, and ventilatory support are selected and ordered to facilitate recovery from anesthesia.
• The patient is discharged from the post-anesthesia care unit and provided with post-anesthesia follow-up, evaluation, and care.
• Participates in additional areas of responsibility, which are within the expertise of the individual CRNA, for example responding to cardiac arrests and elective intubations.
• Ensures appropriate documentation to sufficiently charge for services rendered.
