Job Summary
ERM is seeking an experienced Consulting Director, Permitting Specialist with demonstrated experience working on permitting capital projects in New England and New York. The role focuses on leading large‑scale capital expansion projects in the energy and power sector.
Preferred candidates have knowledge of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, New England General Permits, and local land‑development regulations across the Northeast.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to business development of ERM’s full‑range Impact Assessment and Permitting services, identifying and developing new opportunities, preparing effective technical proposals, and taking an active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients to generate repeat business.
- Serve as Senior Technical Advisor for permitting‑related activities in support of ERM clients’ capital projects (e.g., power, electric, and gas utilities). Lead the strategic planning and preparation of permit packages, serving in roles ranging from subject matter expert to QA / QC.
- Manage a portfolio of complex capital development projects to meet client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
- Lead, manage performance, hire, retain, inspire, and mentor personnel for overall growth and success of the technical team.
- Work with ERM’s existing Capital Project service line to deepen relationships with key clients and establish new client relationships that result in growth.
- Support the general growth and development of ERM’s impact assessment technical community by collaborating with other ERM global practitioners to execute impact assessment projects and participating on teams comprised of impact assessment professionals from multiple offices worldwide.
Requirements
BS / MS in environmental studies, natural resources‑related science, planning, geography, civil or environmental engineering, or a related field.10+ years of consulting experience with state / local agencies and multimedia permitting.Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long‑term relationships with clients and book personal sales in new permitting consulting services.Solid grasp of key impact assessment and management issues within the power and oil / gas sectors, with high technical competence and broad knowledge of environmental permitting requirements.Well‑developed team‑building and influencing skills, with experience addressing client and business needs and challenges effectively.Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of ERM as a global company.Compensation and Benefits
Annual base pay range : $147,670 – $173,400 (USD). The role may also be eligible for bonus pay. Benefits include paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D insurance, 401(k) or RRSP / DPSP, and other applicable benefits.
