Job Description & Requirements Specialty : Med Surg Discipline : RN Start Date : ASAP Duration : 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, nights Employment Type : Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med / Surg night shift position in a Level 3 trauma acute care setting, requiring a current CA RN license and 2 years of recent Med / Surg experience. Responsibilities Work in a 45-bed combined adult and pediatric Med / Surg unit within an acute care hospital Night shifts are 12 hours long, running from 7 pm to 7 am Weekend rotation required : every other weekend or at least 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks Patient ratio is typically 1 : 5 Patient population includes Med / Surg, COPD, post-op, GI bleeds, OB / GYN surgeries, orthopedics, and pediatric cases (pediatric experience preferred but not required) Cerner is the electronic medical record system used on the unit Charge nurse and nurse aides available for support, with no nurse aide coverage from 1 am to 7 am No vent management or telemetry reading skills required Hospitalist available, but not 24 / 7 onsite Opportunities to float to Tele or OB units if experienced; floating is not mandatory for this role Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with rapid patient turnover and an average patient stay of 3 days Role includes managing common drips such as protonix or heparin if appropriate to patient care Onboarding includes 2-3 days of floor-specific orientation, including a half-day scavenger hunt Navy scrubs are required attire for this unit Holiday coverage may be required as part of the schedule First-time travelers may be considered if all minimum requirements are met Returning applicants cannot have been directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by the associated health system within the past year Requirements Active CA RN license required at time of consideration (pending not accepted) Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg nursing experience Current BLS certification required PALS certification preferred, especially for those wishing to care for pediatric patients Experience with Cerner EMR is helpful Two professional references required : one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, each with employment dates and rehire eligibility Copy of current driver’s license required for consideration Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-605406.
